WebMarine litter is a prime threat to marine wildlife, habitats and food webs worldwide. The book illustrates how advanced technologies from deep-sea research, microbiology and mathematic modelling as well as classic beach litter counts by volunteers contributed to the broad awareness of marine litter as a problem of global significance. WebIt is widely acknowledged that hundreds of species encounter plastics and that many are negatively affected by plastic litter (Gall and Thompson 2015, Kuhn et al. 2015). There is evidence of negative effects at most levels of biological organisation (Browne et al. 2015) including ecosystem services (Green et al. 2015, Green et al. 2024).
